Healthassist and Elder Support Resources

Have you noticed an elderly person struggling at home? Healthassist often joins together with Elder Support Resources to offer a written healthcare and social work assessment to help you make informed decisions about healthcare options for the elder.

The assessment includes:

• A joint home visit by Dianne Savastano, BS, MBA and Karyn Shaevel, LICSW to meet with the elder and family.
  
• Assessment of medical history, medications, current health providers, nutritional status, ambulation, mental status.
  
• Assessment of activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, eating, toileting and sleeping).
  
• Assessment of instrumental activities of daily living (shopping, housework, banking, using the telephone).
  
• Short- and long-term recommendations to maintain the elder’s quality of life and help him or her age in place.

The assessment gives a total picture of how the elder is functioning in his or her environment.

 

About Karyn Shaevel, LICSW

Since earning her master’s degree in Social Work from Boston University in 1996, Karyn Shaevel has worked with elderly patients and their families in both community and long-term care settings.

She founded Elder Support Resources to meet the growing need for assistance to families caring for elderly relatives. Elder Support Resources enables elders to live safely, with the highest possible level of independence and dignity.
